What is it about?
SMARTER TOGETHER is a joint project that focuses on co-creation and replication of integrated smart solutions on five different areas: citizen engagement, district heating and renewable energy, holistic refurbishment, smart data and E-mobility with the objective of improving the citizens’ overall quality of life. The project implements large-scale smart city solutions in six urban districts; develops new business models for economically sustainable and replicable smart city solutions; encourages user-centric innovation; experiments with low-energy districts; transforms existing data networks into citizen-oriented open data platforms and demonstrates new e-mobility solutions.
The project adds to the current knowledge and know-how on these fields. Moreover, the results of the project will prepare the ground for replicating the solutions in other cities.
Lighthouse, Follower and Observer Cities:
Munich, Lyon and Vienna are the three lighthouse cities. They will implement the main demonstration activities in certain districts, monitor and evaluate the results and upscale solutions at city level
Santiago de Compostela, Sofia and Venice are the three follower cities. They replicate the key findings from lighthouse cities and implement them in different urban and institutional environments
Kiev and Yokohama are the observer cities. They will increase the outreach of the project and bring in to the picture the perspective of cities from East Europe and Asia.
SMARTER TOGETHER is connected to the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities and operated in cooperation with a range of sister lighthouse projects demonstrating smart solutions in other European cities. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 691876
